Game Preview Struggling Miami comes to Timberland

Portland Timbers
VS
Miami FC Blues
7:00 PM Saturday, August 22nd
PGE Park
Live on Fox Soccer Network

The Timber's 22 game unbeaten streak marches into a Saturday evening match at PGE Park against bottom dwelling Miami FC Blues. Portland is at the top of league and the top of their game after a 4-1 crushing of Rochester last Saturday. Ryan Pore is on a terror with a 5 game goal scoring streak and the Timbers are 10-0-0 when scoring in the first half.

The Blues horrible goal scoring is obviously their biggest problem, they have only scored 19 goals in 21 games. Compare that to Portland's 37 goals in 23 games and you get the picture. The league's teams have had no problem finding the back of Miami's net some 29 times, that is over twice as many goals the Timbers have allowed.

Miami lost last week 1-nil to the Minnesota Thunder at home. That was the chaotic Thunders first road victory of the year. Expect Miami to have better focus as they look to stop the bleeding. Miami is still in the hunt for a playoff berth and even a draw in Portland would be an important step in that direction.

Miami has had trouble putting the ball in the net and putting fans in seats. It is the second worst goal scoring team and it's 1,100 average attendance is dead last in the USL. Miami does lead the league in blow used during matches (sources questionable). To boost attendance figures Miami is now offering to shave one player's head for every 500 fans who show up. That is no joke, just check out miamifc.com.

  1. Kevin played soccer when he was a kid. He was really good at the game, too.

  3. Good post Paul, I don't see anyway the Timbers lose this match up. And watching Kevin play indoor soccer is like a religous experience, it's how I found Jesus.

  4. Why did the Brazillians copy him with the one name thing?

  5. Shaving their heads to get fans? Needless to say, that's a stupid idea. Is a shaved head really that audacious in the Miami heat? Let's see them dye their hair blue or play the 1st half dressed up as a smurf.

And the Brazillians copy everything, look at their language. But its cool, I told Pele he could do it, my gift to him, an honor in fact...for him.

  6. Only 1,000 fans a match? That's pretty pathetic. Doesn't cheap beer work? Anyway, gonna be a fun game tonight, should be a beautiful evening. I hope we get to see Lopez play, that'd be interesting. And let's score one for Pore!

  7. In Miami they must have better things to do. And I guess in boring ol' Portland, a Timbers game is a fun option for a Saturday night, or maybe an exciting all-night marathon of Frasier re-runs, watch the episode "the Innkeepers", its a good one.
