"Mr. Timber" Gavin Wilkinson was named the 2009 USL-1 Coach of the Year this afternoon at the league's media banquet. With the honor, Coach Wilkinson becomes the first coach in league history to win the Coach of the Year award twice - Wilkinson previously won in 2007.
It's been a great few days for Gavin. Earlier in the week signing on for another year as the Timber's Head Coach and now being recognized for leading Portland to another Commissioner's Cup winning season. Should Wilkinson be the Timber's Head Coach in 2011? Is there anybody else that should get the job? Who deserves it more than Mr. Timber?
Keita Loses MVP
This is a mild outrage. I know that Cristian Arrieta is very valuable to Puerto Rico's attack. A defender that brings so much skill to the offensive side of the game, Arrieta scored 10 goals on the year and finished tied for 2nd on the points table. That's great, we can all agree, but the Timbers shattered the USL's unbeaten streak record and Keita was the leading scoring on the team. He also was the league's points champion and he did it in his first ever season in the USL. Certianly, I'm biased, but what would you have done if you had a vote for MVP?

Keita came into the league and took the place by storm. Leading goal scorer in his first season!!! Keita is my MVP!
ReplyDeleteKeep in mind also that Arrieta scored a lot of those goals off PKs.
ReplyDeleteGood point, PKs hardly count as a goal. I don't think Keita took one PK this year.
ReplyDeleteGavin deserves it..
