Anti-Sounders banner flies over Qwest

ACES (Any Club Except Seattle), the supporters group which has a cup for the team which beats the Sounders the most times each season, pulled off a big Stunt at the Sounders' home opener against the Philadelphia Union. They had a plane fly over Qwest with the banner "ACES: GO UNION!"

Now that you know the back story, read this information from an anonymous source (who also provided the picture above):

Just before game time and as the broadcast was switching between ESPN studios there was a little activity in the booth as Harkes and Dellacamera were drawn to the window. Harkes said something like “that’s a long flight from Phili”, then one of the booth staff said that no, ACES is the name of the Portland fan group - Harkes laughed. In the second half the producer mentioned they should talk about the MLS supporter groups and rivalries and Harkes said something about ACES on the air in the second half.

After the game, the Sounders stats guy was talking to Harkes in the booth and mentioned that Sounders FC bought the website sounders.com from the ACES people because they owned it before and had their Anti-Seattle website there. Harkes said - 'I guess we know where they spent it'.

Obviously the Timbers Army would find it humorous to find out they had been replaced by ACES as the Timbers supporter group (as our source pointed out). Especially when much work has been done on the Soccer City boards to distance themselves from ACES.

  1. So, we now know that Harkes was an idiot. There was debate if he was truthfully pulling some chains. Instead, we know he doesn't know his stuff.

  4. From the outsider: Why is it obvious the Timbers Army would want to distance itself from Aces?

  6. Hey anonymous - the D-cell battery, much like the bag or water balloon filled with piss, are classified as 'projectile tifo' or p-fo.

As far as I can tell this is the first true aerial tifo in the history of the sport.
