The Portland Timbers announced yesterday that Real Salt Lake will again be loaning Alex Nimo to the team for their 2010 season. Nimo didn't have much time to take in the news as he found himself on a rain soaked Qwest field later that evening playing against the Sounders. Subbing in for some second half action, Nimo looked like the same speedy, playmaking midfielder that excited Timber fans a year ago.
A hometown product, graduating from Benson high School, Nimo was named a Parade All-American in 2006 before being selected 17th overall by Real Salt Lake in the 2008 MLS draft. Only 19 years of age, Nimo, played in 23 games for the Timbers last year, scoring two goals and recording one assist. Conditions of the loan agreement state that Nimo can be called back up to the MLS by Real Salt Lake at any point during the season should they feel the need. The transaction is also still pending league approval.
