Dropping Timber Player Grades

Portland Vs Rochester 4/17/10 Player Grades

Starters
Ryan Pore: B +
Man of the match. Although #23 would probably like another chance to put some of those shots away. His play on all sides of the ball continue to impress and does he ever stop running?

Steve Cronin: B+
Cronin said it himself. A shutout is a shutout. You can't penalize the guy because he wasn't forced to make any spectacular plays.
Played a solid game.

Mamdou Danso: B+
Really had a good game. Was aggressive and broke up a lot plays, also nearly had a goal.

Stephen Keel: B+
Made his presence felt out there, directing the defense, jamming up the middle. Solid usual.

Quavas Kirk: B
Promising prospect, confident, and I liked that he tried to make plays out there.

Ian Joy: B
A good first start for the "man with the band". Probably wasn't as sharp with his passing as he'd like, but defensively was solid.

Rodrigo Lopez: B -
I liked his energy, was one of the only guys who was creating anything early. This young man might become a huge contributor.

James Marcelin: C
Not bad, but will need to break though and create more consistently.

Johan Claesson: D +
Defensively made some plays, but passing and ball control didn't look sharp out there.

Doug DeMartin: D +
Couldn't consistently put pressure on Rochester's defense. Will need to be more active in order to keep his spot in the rotation.

OJ Obatola: D
A quiet game.... when's Keita coming back again?

Subs
Brian Farber: B +
Left his mark on the game, completely changed the tone and tempo with his energy.

George Josten: B -
Did a nice job of getting into the box. Probably should have started.

Alex Nimo: C +
A bit sloppy at times, but still found opportunities. Should have put that one away though.

  1. Great write-up, professor, but I'd give the forwards a little more slack than those D's. It's hard to put pressure on their defense when the midfield can't create opportunities for you. IMO, the midfield gets a collective C-, with Roro dragging it down with a D (very uncreative on the outside), and the forwards getting B-/C+.

  2. Greener99- after the next match we are going to have a way for visitors of the site to rate players. We'll include scores from our visitors, as well as any comments they leave. You can rate as many as you like. Would that be something you would be interested in?

I agree that a "D" sounds kinda harsh which is why I prefer a 0-10 rating, and I think we can switch back to that. It will give people a little more granularity at the middle levels.

  3. Great idea, Dan. I'm sure you'd get lots of input from folks (providing they know about it).

  5. I would give Nimo a B+, because he was making the best attempts on goal. He got robbed of a goal when the keeper blocked one outside the box.

  8. I agree that a "D" grade does sound a bit harsh. I also agree that the midfield contributed to our lack of offensive opportunities early, which is why most of them have lower grades, but you have to put responsibility on the forwards too. Definitely looking forward to seeing other people's ratings.
