Background: The FIFA Confederations Cup originally started in 1992 under the name the King Fahd Cup or aka the Intercontinental Championship (not kidding WWE fans). The USA participed in the 4-team innagural competition, taking third. The tournament has undergone many changes since its debut, but currently occurs every four-years, serving as a dress-rehearsal of sorts for the host city of the World Cup. Brazil are the current reigning Champions.
Preview: Spain is the hottest and most dominant team on the national scene today and that's probably an understatement. They're winners of a record-breaking 15 wins in a row and with a victory agianst the USA they'd push their unbeaten streak to 36, also a record. After Team USA's minor miracle just to get into the semi-finals, does the team have enough energy left to make magic one more time? Bradley seems to think so -
"We came up against Spain before Euro 2008 and we played a great game. We've been watching them during this tournament and we've been taking note of their style. We know how to stop them and we are very confident."
Spain is the heavy favorite to advance on to the Finals to face the winner of Brazil/South Africa, so lets hope that Bradley is a really good note-taker. If the USA can pull off this upset, it would be an incredible story and a loud statement that US Soccer is legitimate and demanding of the world's respect.
