Japan's first qualification for a World Cup was in 1998, and they haven't missed one since. When Japan and South Korea jointly hosted the 2002 WC, Japan made it to round 16. They made it to round 16 with a little help from a current Portland Timber Takayuki Suzuki, who scored a goal in that WC. Japan has a slew of exciting players, to play with some very exciting teams in Group E with the Danes, the Dutch and the lions of Cameroon.

Player to Watch
Shunsuke Nakamura is the superstar of Japanese soccer. He spent eight years playing in Europe for clubs such as Reggina and Celtic. He is now back in the J-league, and the hope of Japanese faithful rest in him. He is definitely one of the top free kick takers to enter this WC, so if he has a kick just outside the box, expect something special. Three of his best are below in the video, now with more techno!
