Timbers v Atlas Recap
The Portland Timbers hosted Mexico’s Club Deportivo Atlas in an international friendly at PGE Park last night. Over 7,000 people attended and a large amount of Atlas fans were in dressed in red and black. Timber fans were in good spirits after a solid 2-nil win over Miami on Friday, followed by the World Cup final and the continued dominance of the U-23 squad.
George Josten scored his first goal of the year in the 77th minute, congrats to him getting that monkey off his back. The Timbers remained up 1 nil until the 90th minute when Quavas Kirk committed a foul in the box leading to a buried PK.
The friendly then went into a shootout, just like Burnley last year, but with one major difference we won the shootout. Timbers U-23 keeper Jake Gleeson was in goal for the shootout and blocked two of Atlas's attempts for the win. The Timbers put away all four pks they took, with Josten, Nimo, Keel and Lopez scoring in that order.
