The final Portland Beavers ballgame at PGE Park is today, construction crews have already began final phase of PGE park's renovation for next year's MLS season. Initial work began last Winter as a large portion of turf was removed to pour foundations for the new east side stands. The turf was replaced in March for the final season of the USL Timbers. The stadium renovation will be completed in April just in time for the Timbers first home MLS match.

2010 Dropping Timber Stadium Renovation Updates
This past Winter, our elite photographer Double B, kept us updated with his pictures from high on his noble perch. Hopefully as construction resumes we will be getting more of these shots from our upper crust photographer.

MLS Stadium Updates

PGE Park is just two months away from the final phase of construction to make the venue a soccer specific stadium, for a closer look at what the new park will look like check out the awesome virtual venue seat selector. Portland State Football and local high schools will also benefit from the newly redesigned stadium as they will continue to use the facility in 2011 and beyond. The stadium renovation will be finished for the Timbers to play in during their first season in the MLS.
The Kansas City Wizard's new stadium is coming along, as today they began installing the roof trusses. Check the Hillcrest Road Blog for the latest updates.

The Philadelphia Union opened their new stadium PPL Park in style, by obliterating the flounders on June 27th. For more information on the new stadium go to the Union's official stadium site.

Stadium Construction Around the MLS

The MLS currently has four stadiums that are in the process of being built, or in the Timbers case renovated. The projects will go a long way in furthering the effort by the MLS to put all its teams in soccer specific stadiums. Philly's new stadium will open this June 27th when they face the flounders in the stadium's grand opening.

Kansas City Wizard's new stadium has been delayed several times, mostly in part due to the economic mess of 2008-09. This has led to the scraping of plans and starting from new, but "Ain't Nobody Going to Stop Us Now," as the stadium has broken ground and well underway for completion mid 2011.

The Houston city council and county council have given the green light to a new Dynamo Stadium, built close to downtown and near their NBA and MLB stadiums.

Council approves deal for new Dynamo stadium


The Timbers have cleared the hurdles to get the PGE Park remodel underway. This winter the initial phase of a new east side grandstand took place as foundation work took place for several months. The final phase of construction will begin this October and should be finish for an early 2011 MLS season opening.

Satdium Updates from Around the MLS

Philadelphia Union's first game at their new stadium PPL Park won't be til June 27th, til then they will play at Lincoln Financial Field, the home of the Eagles. The Union sold the naming rights to their stadium to PPL, an electric utility company, for $20 million for 10 years. Check out their construction webcam.


Kansas City Wiz posted some new photos of the construction going on their new stadium that should be ready for the 2011 season. See more here.


Red Bull Arena grand opening will be March 20th against the legendary Brazilian club Santos and ace winger/striker Robinho will play in the match. Robinho is on loan to Santos from Man City, because he was having trouble getting regular playing time, that he wants in order to prepare for the World Cup. The Portland Timbers begin full preparation for the upcoming 2010 season on Monday, March 1, when coaches and players report for preseason training camp. Portland’s preseason schedule will include a trip to Costa Rica and a five-day camp in Bremerton, Wash. The Timbers kick off the regular season April 17.

Radio Broadcasts

The Portland Timbers announced today that they will partner with Sportsradio 95.5 The Game and News Radio 750 KXL to broadcast all 30 of the team’s regular-season matches and potential playoff games live during the upcoming season.

Mandjou Keita scored the only goal in 1-nil win last week, the next game for Salgaocar will be the 3rd of March.
