Greece has only participated in one previous World Cup, USA 1994. The height of Greek football was in 2004 when they won the Euro Cup. It was a huge triumph and considered the greatest achievement in team sports by a Greek team. The success in 2004 made expectations high for Greece to qualify for Germany 2006, but to no avail. The coach was highly criticized for keeping the team rooster almost exactly equivalent to the 2004 team. Some strong players were over looked while some who made national team lacked clubs.Greece will be playing in group B with Argentina, Nigeria and South Korea.
